Freeview + is the DTG/Freeview UK industry standard for digital TV recorders which are sometimes called personal video recorders (PVR's). This increase in excellence and functionality is designed to raise consumer awareness of quality and approved standards for digital terrestrial products.

Ocean Blue has been part of the DTG working group, helping to define software standards for Freeview + products. The increased Freeview + software standards for Digital TV Recorders will be embedded into a hard disk based set top box. Consumers will be able to buy these digital TV recorders with confidence and know they represent excellence & industry standard products.

All Freeview + Digital TV recorders must pass the DTG Freeview test suites to gain accreditation and to use the Freeview + logo.

Ocean Blue offers fully comprehensive testing methodologies and DTG test suites in our test labs. Ocean Blue will assist clients to gain DTG product accreditation and product logos.

Technical Information

Ocean Blue's Freeview + software has been developed in the C programming language for portability across hardware and operating systems. The product has been designed to be robust, compact and modular.

The Surfsoft Freeview + software will have additional features for consumers for example:

Recording of subtitle and audio description (if available)	Will be able to show subtitles when playing back a recorded TV programme and audio description (if hardware supports it).
Select TV programmes to be recorded from the Electronic Programme Guide ( EPG)	Simple setup.
Recording accuracy	Programmes selected for recording from the EPG will be recorded at the correct time, even if the TV programme start time changes.
Recording of TV series	A user will be able to choose whether to record the whole of a TV series without having to select each programme in the series. Programmes in the series will be recorded even if they aren't all broadcast at a regular time each day/week.
Recording of split events	Programmes that are split (e.g. a film that has the news part way through) can be recorded by a single selection.
Recording of recommendations	Programmes selected for recording may have links to other programmes or series that are related and a user can choose to also record all of these programmes too.
Conflict resolution	When it isn't possible to record a programme (e.g. due to one that's already recording overrunning) then an alternative showing of the missed programme will be recorded instead, if there is one.
Chase playback	Customers can start watching a programme being recorded before the recording has finished.
